History Trip to Glasnevin and Kilmainham Gaol

On Wednesday the 1st of January, we went on a trip down Irish history. Joined by the 5th year history class we headed first of all, to Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. We visited many famous Irish graves including Michael Collins and Éamon de Valera whose headstone had recently been vandalised. Our tour guide took us to many different graves, explaining the people’s lives and deaths in great detail. We the proceeded to our next stop which was Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. We spent around 2 hours in here then carried on to Kilmainham Gaol. This is such an important place in Irish History as it was the very place where Irish Republicans were executed in 1916. We visited the cells of those people and others. It was a remarkable tour of two extremely important, historic places.
